Why’d we ever let them grow their wings?

Get your laundry done every saturday morning; vacuum, mop, and dust your floor whenever you can, you know how bad your allergies get; avoid those rowdy raves and parties; I know you’ll be tempted by those girls’ nights out, but they’re a waste of your precious time; stay safe when walking or bussing through the big city at night; keep your keys and wallet close, and your best friends closer; don’t forget the thick jacket and blankets we got you for chilly winter nights; be in bed before 12 AM-scratch that, 11 PM every night; yes, I know you’re eighteen, I’m just trying to look out for you, baby; budget your rent, heat, gas, water, electricity, insurance, groceries, student loans, and credit for at least the next three months so you don’t blow your whole paycheck on “plushies” and takeout; try to make it home for dinner once a week, and call twice or thrice if you can; Daddy and I will always be here to listen;

and please sweetie, no more hugs, because if I hug you one last time; I may realize I love my little girl so much that I can never let her go.

    Great piece. I especially love the last line. Reminds me of my parents.
