Message to Readers

This was unpublished today morning when I woke up because it had references to self-harm, i’ve corrected them (except the ones in the footnotes, i hope they don’t mind that, it’s just facts). I had uploaded it yesterday night. Gotta be a personal record tbh. and so here it is-cleopatra.

p.s- a lot of writers on here are now migrating to prose. i'm there, too, and there's a party going on there so y'all can join too

cleopatra/
the alphabets roll off/ the top of my tongue/
and wander off/ to the heavens/
cleopatra/

royal floors rumble beneath us/
glorious skies creak above/
and here we are/
lying on blue satin sheets/ spread on imperial beds/
your hands in mine/
my heart in yours/
just me/ and you/
cleopatra/

a waft of egyptian perfumes/
burns our nostrils/
the ones/ sold in tiny glass bottles/
like forbidden dreams/
to be rubbed on translucent wrists/
one drop at a time/

under the high-ceilings/
i undress you/
swiftly/
slowly/
my fingers/ move gently over plastic buttons/
over woolen threads/
chemicals/ rush through my mind/
intoxicate it/
your love/ reaches my mouth/
and melts on my tongue/
in a blaze of glory/
beads of sweat/ trickle down my back/
like the diamonds/ in your ring/
and then/

we lie together/
on pink sheets of satin/
watercolor gods and goddesses/
watch us sin/ tarnish ourselves/
from their abodes/ in painted canvases/
on the wall opposite/

i look in your eyes/
you look in mine/
and time gets frozen/
in those glass bottles of perfume/
to be cherished/
one drop at a time/

//

i lie/ my head on your synthetic lap/
pain/ embedded in my chest/
the life seeping out of me/
swiftly/
slowly/
everything rushes past me/
in a blur/
you say my name/

antony/ antony

but i don't hear/
no/
i don't want to die/ so young/
i feel everything/
escaping/ from the clutches of my hand/
like sand/ leaving from the gap/
between my fingers/

outside/ the world erupts/
in flames/ and african dust/
uproars/ and among them/
is death/

death/ oh, old friend/
i shall meet you/ at twilight/
when my dreams are complete/
and i've seen my love/
one last time/

and i look/ once again/
into your eyes/
the warmth blinds me/
the blue engulfs me/
i open my mouth/
my lips creak open/
and/
and the alphabets roll off/
the top of my tongue/
and wander off/ to the heavens/
once again/
cleopatra

cleopatra and mark antony. antony was the ruler of rome and cleopatra was the very famous queen of egypt, a scandalous love story, to say the least. there was a war between mark antony and octavian. as octavian entered alexandria (their territory), both antony and cleopatra resolved to take their own lives. antony, thinking his lover already dead, stabbed himself with a sword during the battle but was then brought to die in cleopatra's arms, for she wasn't dead by then. mark antony died on august 1, 30 bc. cleopatra was captured but managed to kill herself via a poisonous snakebite. ah, shakespeare, that sadistic bastard.

Wow. I read this a while ago and just reread it now and noticed all the things I missed the first time. I love how many hidden references you put in here! Lovely, lovely, lovely.

Hey, did you know Cleopatra lived closer to the invention of the iPhone than the construction of the pyramids? You're welcome for messing up your brain. ;)

I'd be willing to do a review of this if you want. If not, no worries. And now for me to pull out my favourite quotes from this and comment about how much I love them teehee

"a waft of egyptian perfumes/ burns our nostrils/ the ones/ sold in tiny glass bottles/ like forbidden dreams/" ugh this part is so beautiful and magical and just
"i feel everything/ escaping/ from the clutches of my hand/ like sand/ leaving from the gap/ between my fingers/" don't make me sad like this :') just so gorgeous
"we lie together/ on pink sheets of satin/ watercolor gods and goddesses/ watch us sin/ tarnish ourselves/ from their abodes/ in painted canvases/" this is so breathtaking and the images you create are just *chef's kiss* so powerful and stunning and just gAH TALENT
" ah, shakespeare, that sadistic bastard." But as writers, we are ALL sadistic bastards...

also yes we love the prose party ;)

Replying: Nope. In fact, no one is the only one who cried in their kitchen, dining table, bed, or even garden during all the good guys death's (Especially Remus, Tonks and Sirius'). Though, I might be the only one who teared up a bit during Bellatrix's death (After I congratulated Molly of course!).
