Dork Diaries: why is it so popular??

July 8, 2020

Alright. So if you don’t know what Dork Diaries is, it’s about this girl called Nikki who describes herself as “adorkable” or something... So basically, she has two friends (whose names rhyme) and they get into all these wacky situations. Throughout the series, Nikki and her friends sneak dogs into school, trespass, commit identity fraud, and all this other totally realistic stuff, all while battling their nemesis, rich diva McKenzie.

The reason I personally can’t stand Dork Diaries is because all the characters are dorky “girlie girls” who get F’s on their tests, obsess over fashion, squeal (Yes, you read that right) and all this other drama.

Obviously, the intended audience is like little kids, Grade 5 and below, because reading about high schoolers makes them feel mature, I guess. It’s so stereotypical, it made me really think about the publishing industry.

So, what’s your opinion? I’d love to know, so please comment!

I've never read them but I get how the stereotypes can be frustrating.
