when you left, the clouds ran away

12
the moon cried in my arms the night the sky crashed down and-
the sun peered down in worry.
‘is it alright?’ it asked and i shrugged, moving over to sit by the ocean.
beneath me the sand sighed as the breeze sulked beside us.
‘what happened to the sky?’
‘it came crashing down when the clouds left’
a star pulsed in terror above us as the clouds rose darker into space.
the ocean halted in its tracks and reached up to pull the clouds in
salt water sprayed us and the moon shivered.
i wrapped my arms tighter around it and the coolness of its tears soaked my shoulder
‘why did the clouds leave?’
the moon quiets. the sun stares. the oceans freeze and the clouds tilt their faces at us
i look at him
he laughs. it’s a soft sound which makes the sand whoop for joy and the wind cheer along.
i whisper, the moon cuddled in my hold, and it’s a ragged breath,
‘they left when you left’
‘I never left’
‘what do you mean?’
the sun squints curiously at him and drips warmth into my icy limbs
i dry the moon’s tears lovingly and hand him to the skies.
the clouds inch closer downwards, sprawling above the earth and-
i know, as much as they pretend not to listen, the clouds have always been the curious sort
the ocean has no such inhibitions and curls around us and-
i run my hand through it’s heart and the lifeblood it pumps keeps me sane
‘i’ve always been with you,’ he smiles.
‘you left’
he brushes my chin with his fingers of icicles, trailing frost up my skin and i-
flinch at the gentle cold.
it’s just us, right here and right now and-
around us fades away as he holds me in his arms
just the way I did with the moon, and i sob farewells
into his chest, while the stars tug him gently away from my hold
‘i’ll never leave you, but you need to leave me behind, darling’
and I stand on the beachy shores, fingering a smooth glass of the seas core and-
let go, just let go, and the water around me nudges my knees and-
catches strings of memory in it's caring hands.
'farewell' and the moon brushed away my tears as i-
take the winding path of firefly stars and the wind it smooths my hair back and i-
i head towards home.

The personification in this that borders on mythological just makes me feel excited--not that the tone of the poem does but i'll get to that--I'm deeply drawn into you world and how you view everything around you. I'm always a huge fan of making things into characters.
But then you twist it from the moon to yourself, like the process of projecting and then internalizing your feelings loss (About whatever is connected to the stone?) and it goes from a massive poem about powerful forced grieving to a small but nowhere near shallow snap-shot of personal expirience.

I am completely blown away! This is truly amazing and the personification is just, well it's just magnificent! This is painfully beautiful as it shows how hard it is to let go of something/someone, after recently suffering pet loss and watching my tiny and furry best friend take unwell and pass on to another life, I feel like I related to this in a way, like the moon was my best friend. I don't know if that makes sense or not! This really is an amazing piece and I look forward to seeing what other wonderful pieces you will write! (:
