i never knew my grandparents
several of my aunts and uncles have disappeared into history
and i have so many cousins i can't recognize their faces
much less recall their names

i should feel guilty
but it's impossible to miss someone you don't remember
i don't think you can memorize a person from stories and holidays
or the two times you've flown across the seas

you see, both of my parents left their homes
and washington state barely feels closer than israel
when neither family understands you

my mom is the second youngest of ten
some of her siblings didn't even make it to my birth
my dad is the third of four
i face the same problem there

both of them married late
i have cousins who are parents
sometimes i forget who belongs to whom

you can't become close to someone you've only met a few times
thanksgiving isn't enough time to learn
not even a whole summer can make up
for a lifetime apart

Sometimes I don't remember their names and sometimes even the relation. So, the former one is worst.

I really understand this too! My dad has so many cousins I don't even know all of them (neither does he) and it's impossible to feel very connected because they are all over the world.

replying: oh that’s so cool! and yeah you’re right i am 5’2! alright, now i have the information i need, which is...i can swing you around HAHA. also, i’m only 40% sure about this, but are you 15? i have this joke (since i’m 15) that 15 year olds are the middle children on wtw (especially since i mostly see 13/14 year olds and then 17 year olds). haha we can dominate our roles as wtw’s middle children
