This is America

White man’s skin tinted with black man’s blood.
The black lives lost are ignored.
Stained hands don’t hold up in court.
Victims are blamed but the criminals fall short.

So when I kneel for the national anthem,
remember how Stephon Clark could not hold his phone.

When I kneel for the national anthem,
remember how Tamir Rice could not play.

When I kneel for the national anthem,
remember how Breonna Taylor could not sleep in her own home.

When I kneel for the national anthem,
remember how Ahmaud Arbery could not jog.

When I kneel for the national anthem,
remember how Derek Chauvin kneeled on George Floyd’s neck.

When I kneel for the national anthem,
remember the thousands of black lives lost.
At what cost?

Why stand for a country that does not stand for the descendants of those they exploited to build their fortune?
The privilege reeks.
They do not fear to murder in pure daylight
because they know the system favors them.
Favors them above any wrongdoing they could ever be accused of.
And even then,
what do they get?
Paid administrative leave.
Why stand for a country that will not stand for all of us?

Neutrality is not an option.
Turning a blind eye is not okay.
White silence kills people,
it doesn't keep the evil at bay.
