All the things I never said

July 5, 2020

My child, my child, I want you to know,
That your mind is your closest friend and your greatest enemy.
That your brain’s favourite game is hide and seek,
and it’s played with you and the truth.
I want you to know that your thoughts will tell lies,
and scream that everything’s wrong, including you,
But your heart is more powerful than even the greatest trickster,
and that no matter what you think,
you are always enough

My child, my child, I want you to know,
that there is no such thing as a bad person,
because no baby is born evil.
I want you to be braver than the lion tamer and stronger than I ever was,
And to know you will understand with certainty that this is true,
when you stare into the face of your oppressor
and your eyes do not gleam with anger, but with compassion,
because you do not see a criminal,
but an innocent soul more broken by this world than your own.

And above all else...
My child, my child, I want you to know,
that the pain that you share is not a burden, but an honour
and every word you speak will lift a weight from your chest.
That tears cried alone are so easily stolen by the sun,
But every tear we cry together will land on your open wounds
and entwine into a layer so strong that it is impenetrable,
even to your precious, acid blood.
Because suffering is not meant to be endured alone
And we are all lost, until we decide that we want to be found.

My child, my child,
I wish I could have warned you of every pain you would face,
-that the world is such a harsh place-
and taught you everything I know.
And if I could go back, I’d tell you that
Compassion is the ultimate bravery,
Words are the ultimate weapon,
And truth is the ultimate saviour,
Because we’re all going through the same thing, alone, together,
and none of us even know,
And we will fight and kill, because none of us understand each other.
But every word, every truth, every story you share,
Opens up the world, saves someone else’s life and your own,

This is a really honest piece, that I tried to fill with some of my most profound truths. Would really appreciate any comments and reviews, as always. :)

I feel almost like this is like a father speaking to a child and telling her that she is precious and loved. It's so pretty!
