Message to Readers

Honestly kind of random, but I was sitting in the grass looking at these shoes (finally took em out of the closet to wear) and I had an aha moment :D

Welcome to a totally unfiltered glimpse into my brain!

here's to what we could have been

June 11, 2020

here's to the sun-dappled days unspent,
the wet grass untouched,
the rain unfelt on my face, on your tongue.
we could have skipped across the sky,
danced across the clouds,
raced across the fields,
only to collapse in fits of giggles unheard.

now you sit in the tangible darkness,
dust prodding at your eyes,
sole heavy with neglect.
i'm sorry that we're not
what we could have been.
i'm sorry that dreams aren't reality.
This is a letter to my shoes (i've been going barefoot and got high tops for my birthday, but haven't worn them in quarantine) because I feel guilty about neglecting them :P

tongues - tongues of the shoe (I was proud of that one)
eye(let) - where you thread the lace
sole - I meant soul, obviously, but I couldn't resist more shoe homonyms

this is such a nice, novel poem. the fact that it's about your shoes just makes it more special! the first line opened so vividly and the contrast between the first and second stanzas is absolutely exquisite. nice work! <3

I can't describe why, but this made me so irrationally happy! One of the best things I've ever read.

Mia! What a cool piece! How interesting to write a letter to your shoes. I especially loved the pun "sole heavy with neglect" it made me smile. Nice work :)
