there’s a forest fire
in my capillaries -

i’m watching the birds fly away from the smoke, 
the rabbits roasting
in their dens. 
now that’s a meal
to sink your teeth into. come forward with canines, molars,
draw away with blood
and upturned eyelids.
can’t you see something sweet up there? i called out 2
god tonight, he was dead but i spoke to his secretary.
it was her son’s eighth birthday, she was
sorry i had wasted my time.
now that’s okay. i’ve got
a couple other deities on the line, i’ll
try one of those.
