Just because Earth has a lot of dirt, that doesn't mean we should treat Earth like dirt.

Let's go to another planet! Mars! Venus! Who cares about boring old Earth? We can trash it all we want; look at all these other planets we could live on instead! I mean, it's not like it would be nearly as hard to make one of these other planets sustainable for life as it would be to keep Earth sustainable for life, let alone harder, right? Oh, and once we make these planets sustainable for life, they will just sustain themselves, and we won't be tempted to ruin their sustainability like we are on Earth, of course, right? Right? I mean, the answer is obvious. Right? Right?
No, wrong. Let's not trash Earth. Earth is our home. What if in the near future, we won't be able to live on it? Good old Earth. And just because in the far future, we might be able to live on other planets, and in the near future, we might be able to get to other planets, that doesn't mean in the near future, we will be able to live on other planets.
