The Smell of Coffee

The Smell of Coffee
When the beans pour it’s rain,
Drops beating on the window,
When they grind it’s a steady downpour,
The small warmth that comes from the stove
Just when you can start to hear the water boil
Or the steam that rises when you first pour the water,
Mixing with fresh ground beans,
Chocolatey and warm wafting through your nose,
Or when you’re standing in line to wait for a cup,
Picking up each bag and smelling each one,
The dark roasts smell like cinnamon and chocolate,
The light roasts more like fruit and citrus,
The first sip in a cozy rainy morning,
When the steeping time is just right,
All of the notes rising in the air,
It feels like nothing can quite reach you,
When drinking the mornings first cup of coffee

I'm don't really drink coffee (I find it completely acerbic, to be honest), but this is so stunning and breath-taking that I wish my taste buds were capable of realising that coffee glory. Well done!:))

Oh thanks you guys!!! When I first wrote it I was trying really hard to capture all 5 senses (so glad to know it worked XD) I’ve been drinking it since I was kid so I absolutely love it (although most people I know can’t drink the coffee I make (I like to steep it for a couple hours...), and hate it black!)

I love this cosy piece. I don't even like coffee, but I love the smell of it, and I think you perfectly encapsulated the smell through many senses. Good job!

I actually hate coffee but after reading this I really want to try to like it again lol! The poem really appeals to the senses, you’ve got sounds, images, scents, and that makes it really engaging to read. Well done on this!
