Message to Readers

The song "Yellow" by Coldplay was really my inspiration for this piece -- as I tried to use yellow as a metaphor for imperfection. I wanted give light to the issue of how we are always rushing through life, moving so quickly from one thing to the next that we forget to look around us, and see the simple things, such as how the stars shine.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated! :)

yellow moments

PROMPT: Flashlight

21

we drink moments like lemonade,
let time fizz sour & sweet beneath the suds
of our tongues, perfect for a second and then         gone;
yellow liquid slipping yellow memories down our
yellow throats.

we grasp minutes between our fingertips as if they're
infinite, curl the crevices of our hands round cell-phones
& scroll, camera click-clicking
yellow pictures through yellow lenses into the
yellow world.

we run faster than the wind,
feet cracking cement, chiseled boards of
gray life smashed under the curves of our heels
as we speed past; eyes plastered to
yellow futures twirling yellow years beyond our
yellow entity.

isn't it funny how it took a pandemic for us to look
at the stars?
they were always there, always burning & shining & fluttering
tendrils of sizzle-hot light, though we just didn't
                                                                            notice.

we are imperfect beings, always rushing, moving, sprinting,
forgetting what never               left.
we are drenched in shards of yellow, soaked in ringlets of
life. perhaps when this is over we will remember the Before & the
yellow moments and change the After so that
yellow is more
than just a snippet of time we've             lost.

perhaps we'll remember to
look at the stars &
look how they shine for us.

for
they were all yellow.

    "we drink moments like lemonade,"
i loved this opening and the simile was amazing.

"we grasp minutes between our fingertips as if they're / infinite"
this figurative language is beautiful, i love it. there's power and timelessness in this and it's gorgeous.

"yellow futures twirling yellow years beyond our / yellow entity."
favorite lines and you use repetition wonderfully.

"isn't it funny how it took a pandemic for us to look / at the stars?"
*mic drop* this is breathtaking, and among my favorite lines spots too. i also felt like this was the "climax" or big "mouth drop" of the piece, which definitely made me want to keep writing even more.

"we are drenched in shards of yellow, soaked in ringlets of / life."
i just HAD to mention this line, i adore it. and your structure is unique i love it.

Um. UM. My jaw hit the floor at the very first line, and I couldn't pick it up for more than one second while reading this piece. That's a weird compliment but I can't think of anything that does your talent justice.

This is absolutely beautiful! @crow_e is holding a contest where you base an entry on a song; have you considered entering? This fits the prompt perfectly! Just, wow!
