My username, Quarkoala, is really two words: quark, and koala. A quark is a subatomic (smaller than an atom) particle. In fact, as far as we know, it is an elementary particle (not made up of smaller particles). Quarks are positively charged, and are in a category of particles called fermions (spin one-half). Groups of three quarks stuck together, depending on the types of quarks, can be protons or neutrons. These subatomic particles make up the nucleus (center) of an atom.
Koalas are animals who live (and sleep) in eucalyptus trees (in Australia). Though they are also called koala bears, they are not actually bears, and are related to kangaroos and wombats. Scientifically, they are called Phasclarctos Cinereus. They sleep a lot - up to nineteen hours.

Correction: quarks are charged particles, but while some are positively charged (2/3), some are negatively charged (-1/3).

I don't have a favorite animal, the upside down koala has just been my symbol for a while. My username was first just Quark, because I like particle physics, but I changed it to go with my avatar.
