The Reader's Delight

April 20, 2020

Wings flap a storm, like leaves.
Good for you, they say, without a second thought,
But so much of it turns, yet one believes,
A book can change, that's what's taught.

Good for you they say, without a second thought:
The world leaves you alone, a tree trunk, standing still.
A book can change, that's what's taught,
But read not to change your rainforest, but to fill.

The world leaves you alone, a tree trunk, standing still.
The book around you has no words, no pages,
But read not to change your rainforest, but to fill;
"But this is wrong," is a myth, spread through the ages.

The book around you has no words, no pages;
It has no errors, not even a kink.
But this is wrong, is a myth, spread through the ages.
All you can do, all you can think:

It has no errors, not even a kink,
Yet it must have some problem, or else.
All you can do, all you can think
Is how you make it, but it speaks for itself.

Yet it must have some problem, or else
The world will be bored, and come crashing down, which
Is how you make it, but it speaks for itself.
And if it has some problems, give it a stitch.

The world will be bored, and come crashing down, which-
Suddenly it's only pages in a book.
And if it has some problems, give it a stitch,
But nothing can return what the word took.

Suddenly it's only pages in a book.
You are disappointed.
But nothing can return what the world took
Unless the book is reappointed.

You are disappointed,
The world, corrupt,
Unless the book is reappointed.
Book, open up.

The world: corrupt.
The cover gleams.
Book, open up.
Feel the seams.

The cover gleams,
The pages fly.
Feel the seams;
Dare to try.

The pages fly,
Symbols flash, off and on.
Dare to try
To read, before they're gone.

Symbols flash, off and on.
You must try,
To read, before they're gone.
You will fly.

You must try,
To enter the rainforest of words.
You will fly,
Like all of the colorful birds.

To enter the rainforest of words,
You will be being,
Like all of the colorful birds,
You will be seeing.

You will be being
Inside the viscous world.
You will be seeing,
The frabric of story unfurled.

Inside the viscous world;
A worm within the deep layers of ground.
The fabric of story unfurled,
With a flickering light and shattering sound.

A worm within the deep layers of ground,
As stars are to galaxies, is to a story
With a flickering light and shattering sound,
Sometimes elating, sometimes gory.

But even so, we read,
Understanding a book is a seed
For our vast, colorful imaginations,
Larger than the largest of nations.
This form of poem is called a pantoum. I end it unconventionally, with a stanza in AABB form.
