In the howling of the storm, some part of you breaks free,
singing on harmony with the crashing of waves
                                                                      against
                                                                       cliff
                                                                       sides

and you know that whoever you were before this

she's as good as dead now.

the salt of the sea calls you home
in every port town you stop by it is not the people that hold you

but the waves,
            gentle now in their
                                quiet movements
             and you had forgotten
what this warmth

felt like.

you don't have a name.

she's dead and you don't have a name.

rebirth is slow and painful but you move forward because
moving back

means burying yourself a second time.

there's something viscous and bloodthirsty in your veins.
you howl in a fight, carrying that storm in you bones.

but it gives you a place to go:

                                                    everywhere.

living on a ship is different.
you wandered the shore, always on the outskirts of country and kingdom

but here it's cramped and small and the waves rock you to sleep each night.

                                                you're not alone.

storm-tossed sailors, abandoned girls like you
followed the call of the ocean and pulled you in their wake;

it's not a cage
                        it's a home.

(it's a family.)

the storms don't frighten you.
lightning and thunder and howling winds wake you up
and you dance with the captain on deck
in the rain and salt water;

the rest of the crew are just as drenched
but the laughter keeps you warm.

(so do her hands and lips and smiles.)

whoever you were before is long dead.
the storm killed you. it rebuilt you.

                                                the ocean rebirthed you.

there's no place to go but forward.

there's a storm on the horizon.
with the sea beneath you,
you love besides you,

                                                you follow it.

"rebirth is slow and painful but you move forward because / moving back / means burying yourself a second time."
favorite lines. but ah god, this is gorgeous. the way you wrap up a whole story in a minimal amount of lines in a poetic way is pure magic.
"there's something viscous and bloodthirsty in your veins. / you howl in a fight, carrying that storm in you bones."
the strength in these lines gave me chills. one thing though, did you mean "your" instead of "you" at the end of that line, right before "bones"?
also applause for your structure of this piece. it flows and goes in a whole new level with you doing this. in a sense, it's kind of aesthetically pleasing. all in all, lesbian pirates are a definite new love of mine---lovely work.

    p.s
this reminded me of another piece i read a LONG time ago. it was about gay pirates but in a different way. anyway, here's the link if you wanna check it out.

    p.p.s
ahh the reminder you're leaving!! way to break someone's heart twice within a single piece. first the story, then the fact you're leaving. i cannot with you aryelee! you simply have too much power
