it's sad,
isn't
it?

how with one sentence
your life is sent
reeling

you find yourself grieving
for someone you
haven't
yet
lost

but they'll be gone soon.

the hours tick by on the steady clock
everything feels a little dim,
a little heavy
like the anticipation of tears and heaving sobs,
questions that won't be answered,
late nights spent just
staring
at the ceiling

and it hurts to already be thinking of how you'll
remember them (as if they had already passed on)
of ways that you'll try to capture who they were to you-
in snippets of song and poetry,
in anecdotes and tear-stained drawings-

and it hurts to know that you won't
see them again
for a long, long time

you ache for their family
and you ache for a friendship
broken
by a cruel disease

but life continues,
and life continued
it doesn't stop for something as small as
one
person's
death

it doesn't stop for a godly person
such a wonderful, caring person
who will leave the world
tonight

...

no.

it only mercilessly moves on,
and expects us to as well.

Beautiful job! I love the emotion that you wove into every line, and a I was left devastated by the end.
