if you see a piece get unpublished, it's probably because I've submitted it to a lit mag, contest, etc! sorry :)

FREE WRITING

She didn’t know what freedom looked like until he came to her windowsill one night, perched like a bird ready to startle into flight. Hello, he said with a grin brighter than the moon itself. What’s your name?

The girl blinked at him, convinced she could see galaxies reflected in his eyes. She bet he had seen the world, spread his arms so wide his fingertips grazed the sky. A chasm cracked inside her heart, worse than any hunger she had ever known. Like a compass, her heart swung toward him. Always him.

Empty, she finally whispered, because she did not want to give her name but it was the only other way she could think of to describe herself.

He did not smirk. He did not laugh. He did not leave. He offered her his hand.

She took it.

Reluctantly, but then firmly, letting skin press to skin as he pulled her out of the window, dragging her into the ink-spilled sky. And as they flew, she let her fingertips graze the night, streaking sparks like a shooting star.

    OMIGOSH this is AMAZING!
    My favorite parts are:
"perched like a bird ready to startle into flight"
"galaxies reflected in his eyes. She bet he had seen the world, spread his arms so wide his fingertips grazed the sky."
"Like a compass, her heart swung toward him."
"Like a compass, her heart swung toward him."
I had to stop myself from just copying in the whole poem.

This is amazing! I especially love that last paragraph, “ink-spilled sky” and “streaking sparks” create such a vivid image!
