FREE WRITING

Sadly, I'm only doing 2 prompts because well-I can't do over 50 reviews again. I have school, clubs, and my sports season is starting. I still want to review and read your guys' works, I just can't do a lot, sorry. Anyway, right to the point, here are the prompts:

Prompt 1: Short Story/Narrative about Beginnings.
Word Limit: 50-750
I know, it's ironic, the prompt is about beginnings-but hey, it's the new year and I'm feeling festive. Whatever. So, you can do any kind of story based around beginnings, whether it's the beginning of relationships, the beginning of the universe, the beginning of the end-whatever you want! This is pretty much limitless-as long as you stick to the prompt, of course.

Prompt 2: Poem about Letting Go
Line Limit: 3-50
This prompt is about the concept of 'letting go'. I thought of this because sometimes we have to let things go in order to start over (like the year) or move on. Anyway, properly embrace your point through your poem. Your piece can be about letting something go, wanting to let something go, or never being able to let something go, or knowing to let go. Don't care what you chose, just what you do with what you chose.

BUT WAIT-------THERE'S A TWIST
So I've noticed a sort of trend and correlation with some writers here. Many well-loved pieces and eye-grabbing pieces have REALLY LONG TITLES! Plus, I think long titles are kind of fun. Therefore, the title of your piece must be a long title (aka at least 6 words or at least 12 letters). And yes, this applies to both prompts.

Extra, Extra, Read all about it!
  • You can enter each prompt
  • No more than 1 entry per prompt, max of 2 entries for the whole contest
  • Must have #kickoff in title
  • Like this piece if you're interested
  • lowercase prose always accepted
  • can use preexisting pieces you wrote
  • Keep it PG-13 (also, I'm being lenient on curse words this time)
Due Date aka Deadline: February 12th, 2020
(Anything on that day is accepted, anything after is NOT accepted)

Prizes
1st Place: 4 reviews, 3 comments/likes, bio shoutout, a follow
2nd Place: 2 Reviews, 2 comments/likes, a follow
3rd Place: 1 review & 1 comment/like
Honorable Mention: Bio shoutout & 3 comments/likes

Congrats on being the first contest I've entered- you piqued my interest. I hope you appreciated the quiet happy aesthetic- it's the only thing that calms me anymore.

Responding to your question on my holiday competition: You may submit any piece (even if it was written a while ago) to my contest provided it is (with the exception of poetry) 500 words or more and follows the guidelines relating to content.

alright i have a poem i'm entering for prompt 2. it's called "drought summer" and the title is only two words long but it has thirteen letters, which fits the criteria. it is about letting go, although it doesn't ever explicitly say those words.

is there going to be an overall first, second, and third place or placings for each prompt?

  • r|A|i|N

i'll participate if i remember to - i love prompt 1 - but you kill me with the necessity for long titles. i was trying to move away from edgy-looking clickbait! goddammit

Is it okay if I make a poem for prompt 1? Let me know so I can make changes before I submit :)
