The crowds are gathered around the canals
Candles light up the paths where many feet trod
Lanterns fly high over heads
shining like stars over the thousands in attendance
Calming music plays from the speakers in the trees
Couples kiss underneath the twinkling fairy lights
Kids smile as their parents help them place their own lights in the water
The moon beams as people enjoy it's dim light.
Hearts swell as blessings are spread
Remembrance for those who are lost
And hope for those who have lived.
I place my own candle into the water
and send it off with a tap
I watched it join the others
For a very brief moment
I felt touched by love that was not my own
Standing, I walk away
Glancing over my shoulder
I smile at the joyous laughter and dancing
Brought to those who came
To our very own
The candle placed was for my Grandma who died last year. Thank you for taking the time to read. Light festivals are truly magical!
