That no life lives for ever;
That dead men rise up never;
That even the weariest river
Winds somewhere safe to see
-from The Garden of Prosperine by Algernon Charles Swinburne

When we drive away in secret
You'll be a volunteer
So don't scream when we take you
The world is quiet here.

bird
takes to the heavens

like a flare
against
blue skies

red
orange
golden

wings expand
like a ship’s sails
fire erupts
on the skyline

single molten feather
brushes against mortal cheek
singes
and burns

so beautiful
the fiery glow
emanating

so deadly
the hot flames
that rise from silhouetted figure
clawing up
to the velvet sky

as I burn
and burn
flames burning
my every orifice

as the firebird
takes flight.

    Is this a subtle hat tip to Dumbledore? The rhythm is lovely. Well done!
