PROMPT: Time Traveler

0
It was icy and dark,
The windowpanes frosted blue,
She didn't know what had happened,
When she left two thousand and two.

It had taken but a moment,
She didn't quite remember,
But her wish to see her grandmother had been granted,
And she stood in Russia in December.

As far as she knew,
She was in the gardens of the palace in nineteen-eighteen,
And she searched about everywhere,
But her grandmother Maria was nowhere to be seen.

There were poor young girls out in the weather,
Dresses ripped and bodies thin,
She needed to find Maria,
Before the paradox could begin.

A dirtied young man was passed out in a gutter,
His bare feet gently poking a sign,
It said 'THE TSAR IS DEAD, LONG LIVE LENIN'
And she could barely hold back her cries.

Because the time travel hadn't gone far enough,
She couldn't save her grandmother,
She couldn't save herself and
She couldn't save her brother.

Her grandmother was Maria Romanov,
Daughter of the Tsar,
And if she couldn't save her grandmother,
Her family wasn't going far.

She was too late, Maria was dead,
She fell to the ground and breathed out her last,
She fell from existence,
Because you can't change the past.
