Message to Readers

This is the first song I have ever written, so let me know what you think! (I have written music like once, just not lyrics).

Only for a While

Verse 1
There’s a house on a hill
And a memory I can’t place,
But it made me think, it made me think of you.

Verse 2
Close my eyes,
Take a breath,
You’re the strength that gives me rest.
You’re the glimpse of light I see behind the glass.

Pre-chorus
I’m tired of these ups and downs.
My hope is wearing thin,
Various emotions I can’t identify

Chorus
World claimed you were broken,
But I always saw your smile
And the love you taught me as a child.
How can I feel so much if you can’t hold my hand?
You left me with a smile*
But only for a while.

Verse 3
I have failed too many times to put it from my mind,
Reminding me I’ve lost track of the light.
A single truth destroys the mend, cornered, no more pretend.
There’s a life in me that won’t go back again.

Pre-choruse
“Fairytales are written,”
That’s what you told me,
“But if you look, you’ll find a brand-new story.”

Chorus
World claimed you were broken,
But I always saw your smile
And the love you taught me as a child.
How can I feel so much if you can’t hold my hand?
You left me with a smile
But only for a while.

Oohs

Chorus
World claimed you were broken,
But I always saw your smile
And the love you taught me as a child.
How can I feel so much if you can’t hold my hand?
You left me with a smile
But only for a while
The initial inspiration for this song came from my grandmother who passed away before I was born. Although I never met her, she has impacted my life tremendously. I have a huge Italian family with tons of cousins. They love to tell stories about her and all of the lessons she taught them. I would not be who I am today without my family. The song started about her, but as I wrote, it became about all of the important people in my life that I have lost or that I will lose.

*Thisline refers directly to my grandmother. All I physically have of her is pictures, but one day, we will meet in heaven.

The lyrics to this are beautiful! Lovely work. I'll write something more critical when I can listen to the recording.

A strikingly beautiful song with such emotional and impactful lyrics. I find myself, and I'm sure many others, being able to relate to this and find comfort in it. Thank you for making and sharing this beautiful piece.

This is such an amazing compliment! Hahaha, I’ll let her know; I’m sure she won’t be creeped out :)

Wow. These lyrics by themselves are beautifully sad. But, the recording?! Absolutely wonderful. I am nearly positive your recording will win. Your voice is absolutely beautiful and so is your cousin’s. (Btw tell them that some random stranger on the internet thinks their voice is beautiful...if that wouldn’t creep them out).
P.S. Thanks so much for the review of my piece. I haven’t received it yet but I am grateful to get a review from a song writer with your talent
