To the Dreamers

July 8, 2019

PROMPT: On Courage

What is a dreamer?
What constitutes a person
Who has plans too big for reality?
Who spends their days stuck,
as if in a trance
where all the world's problems
seem to disappear?

Anyone can be a dreamer.
You can have everything,
Or nothing at all,
And still wish for some wings
To carry you to happiness.

Everyone will be a dreamer.
Imagination and fantasy
Are the dreams of the mind
And creativity stems from reality
Becoming an escape from life.

All of you are dreamers too.
You dream of what life will be,
You dream of making change,
You dream of getting seen
Yet it seems that's all they are.
Just dreams.

So to the future Hall of Famers
And the MVPs to be
To the presidents in the making
And the ones who fill the seats
To the writers of tomorrow
And the artists of today
and the geeks and nerds and outcasts
who'll stand up and take their place

This is for you.
You are the dreamers.

Despite what you already have,
Or what you wish to become,
You have important dreams.

You have the future in your hands,
Even if you've been told that you
Should not, must not, can not, will not,
Even if you think you have everything
Even if you think there's no time left
Even if you think the world doesn't care,
That it's given up on you,
You control your future.

You are the future.

You, and every single being on this planet,
Are a dreamer.
Your dreams are the future.
C.S. Lewis once said,
"Hardships often prepare ordinary people
For an extraordinary destiny."

Your destiny awaits.
Your dreams await,
And the future is ready for you.

Are you ready for it?
This is for a spoken word competition this weekend, so please let me know what I can improve, or what tips you have when speaking in front of an audience, they'd be much MUCH appreciated. <3

Tips for speaking in front of an audience? Well ... personally, I like it. As long as I have something to say, of course. ;)
Make eye-contact with your audience. That will really get them engaged and draw them into what you're saying. Speak slowly, and enunciate, but not too much, or else it'll sound fake. Put expression into your words. Make your paragraphs/verses rise and fall with the emotion in your heart. Stir people to life! Use your hands a little to punctuate certain points.
And have fun! =) This is a unique opportunity!
    Hope it goes well!

This is beautiful and moving! I feel as though there is already a lot of talk these days about 'following your dream', but still, well done. =)
I love paragraph 5. It flows really well.
    Keep up the good work!
    God bless!
