In this piece, you write how much family means to you, as well as tradition. I admire that, truly. Food and family always seem to go hand in hand. Through a little tradition, songs, and jokes and you'll get the perfect scene. I loved how highly you spoke of your family. You are so lucky you get to be with your great-grandparents. Not many people get to be with their grandparents for long. Cherish them for as long as you have them.
The author doesn't just talk about food. The author talks about their family and from the writing I can tell how much the author loves them. There were also hints of celebration and culture tucked in there.
I would want the author to expand a bit on the food part of this. They've already done a great job of writing about her family and they did give a little background for a few family members. But alas, I don't know much about why the food is so important. I understand that we need to eat to survive, but what makes the empanadas and tamales so important. And a question from me: What makes these foods important to you? And why do you respect your traditions so much?
The first sentence and title were what drew me in. I really liked the first sentence and how the whole piece flowed. It all really came together in the end. Well done.
First off, you are a very strong and skilled writer. If you make it a habit to write every day, your writing skill will significantly increase. This is a very moving piece. This reminds me of all the traditions I have with my family that involve food.
