That no life lives for ever;
That dead men rise up never;
That even the weariest river
Winds somewhere safe to see

When we drive away in secret
You'll be a volunteer
So don't scream when we take you
The world is quiet here.

These Things we Call Animals

October 22, 2019

Did you know
That these things we call animals
Are not animals at all

Did you know that pigs
love belly rubs
That elephants go
back to their friends’ graves
to visit them

Did you know that an orca
swam with her dead calf
for a long time
before she could finally bear to leave it

And did you know
these things we call animals
are not so unemotional as we think

These things we call animals
The things we slaughter love belly rubs
The things we poach visit their friends’ graves
And the things that we capture and put on public display love their young
These things we call animals.
