Message to Readers

For context, I wrote this as a love poem written by a character in a novel I'm writing. He's pretty insecure and new to all of this, but his feelings are as sincere as can be.

If You Would Be Mine

April 16, 2019

If you would be mine —
a drop of water
to a withering plant,
the light to the moon
filling lonely nights;
Hearts flood, and I would fall,
melting, into the stream…
but to be pulled out by yours,
coming out bare,
I hope, with all washed away,
that you’d hold me the same;

and mine to hold, and worry,
to grasp and long, my extent;
but I’d flood it all again,
clearly, and assured,
if you would take it all—
desperately, selfishly, I would love.
