I submitted this as final on the spur of the moment, but I would still love to hear what you guys have to say! (Haha, I'm a foolhardy mess.)

Fill in the Bl_nks

April 10, 2019

I told my parents I would do this. If I win -- something,
Anything -- then it's The N_w School.
Nothing... UC_ it is.

I tell my parents I won't do it, I want my choice back.
Mom snaps, You can go to college in h_ll, for all I care.
Father screams. Forget your choice, it's my money!

I come out of the bathroom _0 minutes later.
They don't talk to me. I don't talk.
I write:

It's The Now School.
When else will I get this chance?
Where? I only got Cal Grant _ because

We live in California and make less than $_0,000 a year.
According to my friends' friends,
I only got in because I picked English.

[Of course.]

Even if I went to UC_,
I wouldn't count on staying long.
The East Coast calls.

It's funny. I applied for English B_'s and Creative Writing B_'s
To make my parents proud. Proud of my eloquence.
Of my mastery of the language.

My dreams -- book editor, book author,
Oscar-winning screenwriter --
Had come _nd.

It's cruel. I'm not eloquent.
I'm no master of language.
I can't even fill in the bl_nks of a crossword.

I'm just a girl born and raised in California
With dreams of writing, and winning,
And going to N_w York.
