the moon was red

Sliced plums and aching teeth
look like strawberries from afar
nicknames of dinosaur eggs
like the moon from yesterday.
The moon from yesterday
she was crying
or maybe she was bleeding
for she was shining orange and red
a sad smile hanging
barely hanging
in the sky.
And the clouds
plucked at her lips
those pale lips
that were never painted
with lipstick the color of sunsets
the cool, wanting gaze of the moon.
And the sun sets again tonight;
the curtains have not come alive yet
so I pull them back
and there were those pale lips
back again, my dear moon
unpainted and shining
pale, pale, shining.
And i wonder if Chang'e
saw earth; saw me
sheened with red and smiled
from afar
to the sun that she saved
once upon a time

  • A Breath Into Silence

Hello! You asked me to update you if I ever published a sequel to "Mercury". And I just did! (Ping!)

Also, I really love this piece. The way you broke up your lines and the way you wield your figurative language really made this piece come alive to me.

absolutely GORGEOUS. i applaud this masterpiece. especially the reference to Chang'e?? LOVE that. so beautiful and eloquent.
my favorite part is probably the Chang'e reference but some of my favorite lines are "Sliced plums and aching teeth/look like strawberries from afar" and "that were never painted/with lipstick the color of sunsets/the cool, wanting gaze of the moon."
