This is definitely not supposed to be a poem, just in poetry format. I think.

Whatever Poetry is, it's Definitely Not This

February 18, 2019

Poetry is supposed to make you feel something right?
Well this won't.
Poetry is my least favorite type of writing,
It puts me to sleep.
I know that poetry is supposed to have deep meaning,
I can always see that deep meaning,
But I never understand it.
I can never get anything out of it-- for example:
In 5th grade we did a poetry unit,
They said to write about something in nature,
I wrote about a tree.
A stupid, boring, tree.
It was basically a rant on how boring the tree was.
Poetry also is supposed to rhyme,
Absolutely not.

I write random rhyming words together and somehow, somebody manages to squeeze a meaning out of it.
Try this :) love this piece by the way

As a poem (and rhyme) lover I like seeing people with opposite opinions. Your poem-but-not-a-poem here helped me gain a wider perspective of different kinds of writers and what they prefer. Also, the part about your 5th grade tree poem made me chuckle. I'd love to see more writing from you in the future :)

Tbh poetry is a style of writing that either clicks with someone or doesn't. There is minimal room for character, theme and subtext. Because of this, writers need to get creative.

This can sometimes be tedious or difficult to grasp.

Prose has heaps more room to connect to a reader (usually through character or plot), and therefore a greater appeal to a general audience.
