It makes me sad that current society hides true personalities.

I think we often see
faces that are guilt-free
clinically stern
and covered with a plaster
of makeup and deception
if not
then there are smiles
that are straining to stay
upright
and in ways are
more sad and futile
than frowns themselves
the way they lead
up to eyebrows
that tilt
downwards
or have been
plucked to curve
perfectly
but unnaturally
in the same way that
nails
are manicured
and painted to
hide
the flaws we push
inside
covering up our personalities
with glitter and sparkles
with words as fake
as the praise we heap upon others
in an attempt
to make ourselves seem as
caring
as we are supposed
to be.

yes, i like this a LOT, and it's really good wording, and showing how society has made us be perfect, with no flaws. i see little girls wearing makeup, and wonder "who told them that they had to wear makeup? who told them they weren't pretty enough the way the were?
and it's a big question i'm always pondering. do i need makeup?
    no.
does it make me feel confident?
    yes.
    but why?????

Society has always pushed that we wear a mask. It has only changed in how and where.

I'm considering entering your contest (which is why I'm here). There a lot of good lines from which to choose, so good job there. Also, I really wanted to say that I think your prompt to be very clever, both for the self-promo and the wide (but contained) variety of options you offer. I hope I can enter the comp, because it sounds fun.
