As the steel sheets unfold, I revoke the flatness
of my fingers, tremblings
too violent to be the movement
of machine. Lately, my body peels
at the muscle, pellucid epidermis suggestive
of exhaustion -- but I tender further,
I soften, for I always assumed there would be
at least one organ rotting inside
even the best of us. Then the metal doors close
behind me like fingers clasping
each other in inevitable prayer,
unsought farewell.
What if everything I love...

Gazing towards the horizon,
I wonder,
Where have you gone ?
Will I watch you smile again ?
Racing white horses where you once flew,
Over the waves on your balanced board.
I wonder,
Where have you gone ?
Will I hear your laugh again ?
Turquoise covers my shoulders.
Turquoise like the sea.
Turquoise like we remember you.
I can see,
You cheering for me,
As I crash along the waves.
But when I blink,
You fade away.
And...

Life's a journey
Of delight and despair
As time flies through the air
Enjoy every bite
Because every journey has a beginning and an end
There are good chapters and bad chapters
Filled with obstacles and adventures
You are the traveller in your journey
What do you choose?
Remember, the path you choose
Leads you to your fate
You fall
Deep into the black hole
It swallows you whole
You swing your arms wildly in panic
Hoping
Hoping someone would...

Lying in my yard,
I stare into the night,
Fascinated by the stars,
Shining oh so bright.
One thought crosses my mind,
As I am entranced by their shimmer,
What would it be like to shine,
To be a part of that glimmer?
Oh, to be a star,
Glowing in the night;
Guiding someone's pathway,
Providing them with Light.
Oh, to be a star,
Charted and known by any;
Standing out proud,
Yet surrounded by many.
Oh, to be a...

I’m sorry
This wasn’t supposed to be our story
We had so much planned
I know you never wanted me to be this sad
I’m sorry
But the pressure of getting older
Crushes you in ways we were not aware
Teenage years don't look the way they did on the TV
No beautiful romance for me
No days filled with friends and nights full of parties
School isn't that easy
Dreams feel so out of reach
You thought I would...

Do you ever feel so strongly, you can't feel anything
You have every word in your head, but you can't say what you mean
Everything, everyone i know is gone
The only one i have to listen, is this song
My family won't listen, my friends don't care
I look for help, and nobody's there
On those days, i turn to song
Those beautiful lyrics know me better than anyone
When music sounds, my heart does lie
Filling with magic,...

Black and white.
The keys all in a perfect row.
Bronzed brown.
The small leather stool squeaks quietly every time you sit. A bleached patch in the corner from sitting in the sun for too long.
Orchid Pink
The sound of pureness and satisfaction. Soft and fresh.
Velvety green.
In one way envious and resentful. In another, bountiful and filled with potential. Innocent and carefree.
Bright aquamarine.
Reaching into the sky with a smile on your face. A vivid feeling.

The person I wanna be is someone who’s brave
Not some coward who hides behind a pole
I wanna be strong, and help the weak
Not to be the weak that needs the help
I wanna be the hero, the main character of the show
Not that one side character that dies in the first episode
I wanna be remembered
I wanna be creative, come up with life changing ideas
Not to live off of someone else’s thinking
I wanna...

her crown sat atop her hair
sparkling amongst her hair like
stars shining.
each question asked makes her brim with
excitement but no one sees her,
all focused on their own opinions.
her hand touches mine, concealed
by her skirt and the table and
their blindness to their surroundings.
in her touch, i know she knows,
and yet, she's my safety in this
room full of people who might
tear us apart.

There’s a word
The hissing of a snake
Leaving behind a trail of venom in its path
Cancer
Many think the word cancer is another word for death
But the survivors, family members, friends and loved ones, know it differently
Cancer doesn’t mean death
It doesn’t mean you’re doomed
Although many will tell you to say your goodbyes now
Others will wonder the what, when, why and how
Cancer is a strange thing
It tricks us into thinking that you...

The boys here look at your Anarkali suit
like boys back home look at your jeans-
down the sequins on your long black gown
to the anklets that howl like caged monkeys
when you try to move.
There're boys everywhere-
they say they don't gawk,
they'll protect you if others do
because you're special: you're a woman
alone in the subway.
You wonder when you dance for them
whether they see the art or the artist,
whether your shawl has...

i know where i stand on this side of the world.
this is my ground. fifteen years as it pounds under my feet, carrying my spirit when it becomes too heavy.
this is my city. i memorized the scent of it, oranges and sunlight and blooming dreams. i can describe the skylines like a faded photograph behind my eyes.
this is my people. my neighbors, with their big dogs and high hedges. my friends, who keep the words flowing when...

New York-I pray that god let me look at the window of 181st Morris AVE PS.386 kids, ice cream man screaming “COCO MANGO CHERRY” and kids buying it for $1, I pray I can look at it one more time without teens getting beat to death by knives and other weapons.
