When your feet follow your heart.
There's an old Irish proverb that says "An áit a bhuil do chroí is ann a thabharfas do chosa thú." (Your feet will bring you to where your heart is.) The belief is that you will always end up where you are meant to be.
Writers, have you ever been somewhere and felt as though you have always belonged there? As if your heart had been there all along and your feet were just then catching up? Maybe it was somewhere new, far from where you live. Or maybe it was a beach or city square closer to home. (Or even a non-physical “place”—an arts practice, or sports team, or online forum.)
Close your eyes, picture that place. What led you there? How did it feel to stand or sit or swim in its midst? What gave you a sense of belonging?
Try to identify what makes it so special for you, zooming in on your senses—on the sights, smells, sounds, tastes, and tactile experiences of this place.
Now take us there, in writing.
